چکیده

Abstract The transition between the stable base state of magnetized spherical Couette (MSC) flow and return instability is experimentally investigated. experiments are conducted using an MSC setup consisting insulating spheres with ratio inner to outer radii r i / o = 0.5, Reynolds number Re 1000 Hartmann Ha ? [25, 29]. characterized by changes in power spectra azimuthal modes as dynamically changed. occurs interval [26.5, 27.5]. evolution exhibits hysteretic effect depending on whether increased or decreased within experimental interval. m {3, 4} increases remains dominant increased, while {2, time dependent due decreased.

Simulations of Magnetorotational Instability in a Magnetized Couette Flow

In preparation for an experimental study of magnetorotational instability (MRI) in liquid metal, we present non-ideal two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the nonlinear evolution of MRI in the experimental geometry. The simulations adopt initially uniform vertical magnetic fields, conducting radial boundaries, and periodic vertical boundary conditions. No-slip conditions are impos...

Helical magnetorotational instability in magnetized Taylor-Couette flow.

Hollerbach and Rüdiger have reported a new type of magnetorotational instability (MRI) in magnetized Taylor-Couette flow in the presence of combined axial and azimuthal magnetic fields. The salient advantage of this "helical" MRI (HMRI) is that marginal instability occurs at arbitrarily low magnetic Reynolds and Lundquist numbers, suggesting that HMRI might be easier to realize than standard MR...

Comment on "Helical magnetorotational instability in magnetized Taylor-Couette flow".

Liu [Phys. Rev. E 74, 056302 (2006)] have presented a WKB analysis of the helical magnetorotational instability (HMRI), and claim that it does not exist for Keplerian rotation profiles. We show that, if radial boundary conditions are included, the HMRI can exist even for rotation profiles as flat as Keplerian, provided only that at least one of the boundaries is sufficiently conducting.

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

Instability of Plane Couette Flow

The energy gradient theory has been proposed with the aim of better understanding the mechanism of flow transition from laminar flow to turbulent flow. In this theory, it is suggested that the transition to turbulence depends on the relative magnitudes of the energy gradient amplifying the disturbance and the viscous friction damping that disturbance. For a given flow geometry and fluid propert...
